It’s May already. I cannot believe it! I am excited for consistently warmer weather and for what summer has to offer. There are so many great things happening this month that I have to tell you about it right now!
I have been nominated by Westword Magazine as one of the Best Singer/Songwriters of Denver for 2008. It is a huge honor for me to be included with all of the talented nominees this year. Voters decide on who gets the award. I would be entirely grateful if you took a minute of your time to vote for me. THANK YOU! So here’s what to do…Go to:
http://westword.com/polls/musicpoll/. Fill out the info, name/email/phone. No one is going to be calling. They just need the info to make it as fair as possible. You can uncheck the bottom box to excluded from the Westword’s mailing list if you would like as well.
There are several different categories that you will need to vote for. My recommendation for Pop is Savage Henry, and please don’t forget to vote for me for Singer/Songwriter.
I truly hope you take a minute and vote. Thank you a ton!!!
I am going on another tour at the end of this month out to Arizona and California . It’s going to be an acoustic duet tour with Eric Garcia on percussion. We’ll be playing in Payson , AZ , San Diego and Santa Monica , CA . If you have any friends or relatives in the areas, please spread the word about our shows. It’d be great to make new friends.

They will be $15 the day of the show, so get them now! For pre-sale tickets contact myself at, Jason@JasonVigil.com. I would love for you to come to this show! For directions visit:

CO-WRITTEN SONG, "THIS GAME" RELEASED - April 1, 2008
MIKE FARLEY TO RELEASE THIS GAME
Nashville Based Singer/Songwriter Collaborates on Controversial Song
Nashville, TN—Known more lately for his work as a publicist, singer/songwriter Mike Farley recently collaborated with Jason Vigil and Zack Nichols on a song called “This Game.” The theme is baseball, or more specifically, longing for the days when the game was just a game, and steroids were not grabbing all of the headlines. Farley recorded the song with producer Josh Preston at Me And the Machine Studios and will release the single digitally (on iTunes and other sources) on Tuesday, April 1 to loosely coincide with the start of the major league baseball season. For more information, please e-mail mike@michaeljmedia.com.
About Mike Farley
After a five-year hiatus, Mike Farley released an acoustic album, Moments and Memories, in October 2007, the follow up to 2002’s Blue. Moments and Memories is Farley’s first album since relocating from Cleveland, Ohio, to Nashville in 2003. Although the change in locale hasn’t resulted in a dramatic change in sound, Farley admits that there’s definitely some twang on some of the new songs, particularly “Saturday Night Needs Sunday Morning,” a co-write with Aaron Brotherton. If there’s one thing Moments and Memories has done for Farley, it’s reinvigorated him as an artist.
The Mike Farley Band released four independent albums and was voted Best Rock Band by the Cleveland Free Times two years in a row. Mike and his band opened for such artists as Dave Matthews, Tori Amos, Edwin McCain and the Pretenders. His songs have been placed on ABC-TV’s All My Children, as well as in MTV’s Undressed and ESPN’s X-Games. In addition, the Houston Astros baseball team licensed Mike’s song “Play Ball” for their team video, which was shown in Minute Maid Park for every home game during the 2003 season.

JANUARY NEWS - January 1, 2008
Happy New Year’s! I hope that everyone had a very safe and fun time!
Last year was a great year for me and I am looking forward to an even more prosperous 2008. I hope the same for you as well!
I was sitting at my computer a couple of weeks ago, trying to brainstorm ways to further myself promotionally and musically, when this quote came across to me. It seemed to make a lot of sense at this point in my life, and I would like to share it with you.
“Do what you can with what you have, right were you are.” -Teddy Roosevelt.
Sometimes I think we can get discouraged thinking that we don’t have enough of something, (skills, talents, money, friends, etc.) and stop ourselves from tying to make steps forward in life. I really like this quote because it allows one to think of what they already have and that they can do something with it. And really, once you do stop to think of it, you can see that you usually have more to work with than you had thought. I hope you take a minute to think of something’s yourself.
Anyways, I’m about to head out on a two week, Midwest tour, with singer/songwriter Zack Nichols, and I am very excited about it. We’re going to hit Omaha, NE, Brainerd, MN, Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, and Nashville, TN. Wish us luck! I’m looking very forward to seeing some old friends and meeting new ones.
VOTING!!!:
99.5 fm The Mountain is going to include one of my songs on their Homegrown Compilation cd, that was recorded at The Soiled Dove Underground for their MTN Homegrown Showcase. They need you to vote for which one they are going to use. Please go to the website and vote. I’m casting my vote for “Everything” as we haven’t recorded it and is so far unreleased. It’s a good chance to get an “unreleased” song if it makes the compilation. Here’s the link:
http://kqmt.radiotown.com/homegrown/
Please vote! All votes must be cast by Wednesday January 30th at 5:00pm
The band will be back in Casper, WY, at The Movie Star Lounge, Friday and Saturday, Feb 1st and 2nd. Zack Nichols will also be joining us. If you live in the area come out for one of the best times you’ll ever have! We are all looking forward to being there! 9PM $8 21+
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a great 2008! And if you’re going to be in the cities we’re hitting on the tour, come on out and join us! It will be great to see you!

For this months artist share, I’m happy to introduce to you, Just Off Turner, if you haven’t heard of them yet. A good friend recently introduced me to them and I cannot stop listening to their album, The Long Walk Back. I have not found a cd like this in a long time. They’re style is a mix of John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Maroon 5 and Matchbox 20, which are some of my favorite artists. They produce such a great sound and vibe. The music hits me and moves me deeply, even though most of the lyrics are about heartache and loss. Please check them out, you won’t regret it!

NOVEMBER NEWS - November 5, 2007
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Thanks again to everyone who came out to our Halloween show to see Prince and The Revolution, (if you could actually call us that).
I personally am looking forward to Thanksgiving coming up. If you have any cherry pie leftovers, send them my way!
Recording in Kentucky with producer, Duane Lundy, went very well. We have decided to continue recording and are now planning to release an E.P. in the spring.
There are a couple of really great things that are set in motion for this month that should be up and running within the next couple of weeks. Please do check them out.
The first of these that I would like to share, is song, “So Tell Me” will be placed on the Red Rocks Amphitheatre website,
www.redrocksonline.com, under Red Rocks Radio and will be available for streaming.
The second, is that song, “You I’m Thinking” that will be placed on the Animoto website,
www.animoto.com for use with the website service. I haven’t seen a website this exciting in a while. It allows you to make slideshows of your own photos that play to music that you choose. I’ve played around with the slideshows myself and find it just amazing at what it does. I encourage you to do the same.
This Friday, November 9, I am playing a very special solo/acoustic show with my friend from St. Louis, MO, John Boy’s Courage. We play at The D-Note, Arvada, CO. The show starts at 8pm, ALL AGES and tickets are $5 at the door. I really would like to make him feel welcome to Colorado with a great audience. Please mark this date in your calendars.
Thank you again for your support! See you on the 9th!
OCTOBER NEWS: PUBLISHING DEAL AND NEW RECORDINGS! - October 1, 2007
Hello and happy October!
Fall is coming upon us shortly and it makes me ask why has summer passed so quickly? I wish I knew, but oh well, I suppose. September was a good month. I had spent some time in St. Louis, MO, and played two showcases at Play:STL music conference and festival. I met some incredible people and had the opportunity to see some phenomenal bands. I’d like to thank Laura Hamlett, festival director, and Todd Sarvies of the band “John Boys Courage,” for treating me so well. THANK YOU!!! I found the music conference quite motivational, informational and very stimulating.
It’s good to feel that at the moment, because I am heading off to Lexington, Kentucky, to do some more recording. The plan is to record three new singles with producer Duane Lundy (Scourge of the Sea, Neva Jeffrey, Vandaveer, The Parlour Boys) at Shangri La Studios. We will also be recording with Gus Skina, developer of the Sonoma DSD and owner of The Super Audio Center, and will personally engineer the recording session for an SACD release. We will be making limited copies of these singles, so be ready to get them when they’re available.
I have also inked a publishing deal with St. James Media, a boutique publishing firm that will have a presence at MIDEM in Cannes, France in January. October has been a very exciting month already.
There is a new review posted for album, “Heart Gone Sober.” To read it and to see if you agree, go to:
http://www.rambles.net/vigil_sober06.html.
The band spent a weekend in Casper, WY, at The Movie Star Lounge. A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to the shows and made those two nights incredible! We are looking forward to seeing you Feb. 1st and 2nd of next year!
There are a couple of upcoming shows that I would love to see you at. The first is at The Table Mountain Inn, Oct. 25. That will be a solo performance.
The band will be also be playing a Halloween Bash Oct. 26, at Blondie’s Firehouse Pub in Englewood. Come out in costume and be ready to have a blast!
This month I have two artists to share, John Boy’s Courage and Brown Shoe, both of which I’ve met at Hyperactive Music Festival (Albuquerque, NM) and Play:STL Festival (St. Louis, MO).
John Boy’s Courage (St. Louis, MO) is a great act. Todd Sarvies is an exceptional front man and also plays the guitar very well. He has a powerful voice and an explosive performance with a demanding presence. It was comforting for me to see his performance and know that there are others out there who love to put enormous energy into their live set. I will be playing a show with John Boy’s Courage, November 6, at The D-Note, Arvada, CO, in which I am very excited for. I enjoy listening to the album “The Fall Precaution” as well. I encourage you to check it out and also visit the website:
www.johnboyscourage.com. I would love you to make it to the November 6 show!
Brown Shoe is another great band that I met from Sacramento, CA. They have an extra smooth pop-rock, alternative sound similar to something you would hear if Keane and The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Adore” album with a hint of Death Cab For Cuite collided. Not only are they intense performers having a great live show, but are nice guys to boot. Also, something that makes them more distinctive of a band is that three out of the four members are brothers. Their album, “Vanity” is very well put together with smooth sounds and good melodies. It also is incidentally is recorded by Duane Lundy, who is also working on the new singles we are recording. If you’d like to check out Brown Shoe, go to:
www.brownshoemusic.com
Thanks for your support! Be well and live well!
SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER - September 1, 2007
It’s been another busy month. I’m happy it’s September though. The main reason is my birthday comes every September. And yes, gifts are welcome…….I’m only half joking.
Anyways, I just returned from a solo tour through Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. What an experience I had. From meeting new friends, old friends to sleeping in my van at a Sam’s Club parking lot, and then washing my face at the Wal-Mart bathroom while another guy washed his hair. Don’t even ask me about Vegas. I’m glad to say that I am back home.
I’d like to give a big thank you to Jim and Karen from The Movie Star Lounge. If any of you find yourself in Casper, WY, make sure you check out Karen and Jim’s Restaurant and The Movie Star Lounge, located 520 S. Ash Street, Casper, WY. Tell them hello and that Jason sent you. I’m looking very forward to returning there for another great weekend of making new friends and music.
This month has some great things in store. Tonight the band is playing the re-grand opening of The Toad Tavern. Come on out!
Sunday, we will be playing in Evergreen for 99.5 FM, The Mountain’s Chili Cook Off! September 20-23, I will be heading to St. Louis, MI, for the first annual Playback:stl Music Festival.
My birthday is the 24.
After taking a long hiatus from songwriting, I have begun to start working on new material. Be ready to hear some new songs coming up and for new material to be released within the next few months.
Thank you again everyone for you support!
For this month’s artist, I have chosen Eliot Morris. His latest release is What’s Mine is Yours. As much as I know, he is somewhat a newcomer to the national scene. I’ve had his CD for several months, but haven’t really tuned into it until the past couple. When I first listened to it, I wasn’t completely drawn into the mellow vibe that is bedded within the album, until I listened again. I find many similarities to The Counting Crows, Vertical Horizon and Del Amitri, but on a much smoother, softer and gentle level. I’ve grown to really appreciate this album for it’s calming qualities and positive sounds. The song that truly won me over is track six, “This Colorful World.” I think it has powerful movement throughout, and always puts me in a good mood when I hear it. So check out Eliot Morris and let me know what you think. His website is:
www.eliotmorris.com.

JULY NEWSLETTER - July 10, 2007
First of all, where did June go? Secondly, I hope you have a wonderful July! June was a very busy month for us and this month is looking to be just as busy.
A very big thank you goes out to everyone who made it out to the Soiled Dove Underground, July 2. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever played and an honor for me to open up for Edwin McCain. I remember listening to him with my buddy back in high school. Thanks for sharing that great night!
I am playing at The Walnut Room, (Denver), this Saturday, July 14th. It will be a duet with Eric Garcia playing percussion. Jill Stevenson from NYC will be playing as well as Josh Queen. Doors @ 8:30pm and show @ 9pm. 21+ Tickets are $6 at the door. Make sure you tell the door person who you’re there to see. Hope you can make it!
I hadn’t been in a news studio before I played on Channel 9 News for their Peacock Café Summer Concert Series. It was a great experience. There is so much lighting and camera equipment that I was stunned. You can check out the news segment at this link:
http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=72091
The band played a show for the Summit Road Concert Series in June. Pick up a copy of this month’s Colorado Music Buzz Magazine to read the interview for that showcase.
We also had a great time playing The Taste of Centerra in Loveland, Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue and The Greeley Stampede in Greeley.
I want to share another of my favorite artists with you. His name is Jeff Buckley. I know there’s a ton of people who already know of him, but there are a few who do not, so, I’d like to share.
This artist has had a great impact on me as an artist, singer, writer and musician since I was introduced to him over four years ago. Unfortunately he drowned in the Wolf River, Memphis Tennessee, Thursday, May 29, 1997. He was thirty years old.
One of my favorite songs is “Last Goodbye” on his Grace album. I really can listen to it over and over. Yeah, I’ve done that. He has other releases that I’ve heard; Live at Sin-é, Live Al’Olympia, and Grace Legacy Edition which has other recorded material and a DVD. I’m sure there are more, but I haven’t heard them.
I really do love his music. My song “Come to Me” is somewhat of a tribute to him, as I’d like to think it’s in somewhat of his styling. His father was Tim Buckley who also passed away at a young age and was somewhat of a folk star. I have recently read a dual biography called, “Dream Brother” by David Browne, which is about the lives of both Tim and Jeff Buckley. If you’re a Buckley fan, I strongly recommend you read it.
Either way, check out Jeff Buckley and his music at:
http://www.jeffbuckley.com/
Thanks again!
Sincerely,
-Jason Vigil
JUNE NEWS - June 13, 2007
Happy June everyone! I hope that the intro to summer has been great for you. I am truly enjoying the warmness myself!
May was busy and June is looking even busier. We have some great shows coming up this summer that I would love to see you at.
So I’ve decided to do something new with my newsletter. I’d like to share some of my favorite artists and their music with you. Maybe you’ll like it and maybe you won’t, but either way, perhaps you just might find something you can relate to. So, here’s my first artist share.
I just saw Bob Schneider, who is one of my favorite performers and songwriters this past weekend at the Gothic Theatre. He’s from Austin, TX, and I had a great time. He has released a few albums, that I love, and has an incredible website. His latest release, “The Californian,” is great rock. The prior release, “I’m Good Now,” is a more smooth sounding album and always feels good to me. It’s difficult for me to choose, but I think it’s also my favorite one. Here’s the link. I hope you like it.

See you at a show!

FEBRUARY NEWS - February 13, 2007
On a personal note…
There is much going on with the project and some success that has come our way. I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone who has so far had a part in helping us get where we are and where we want to be.
First of all, I’d like to thank the band for being such hard, diligent workers and for being the backbone of everything that goes on: Cale Hand, Justin Miller, Skinny, Eric Garcia and Alex Browers. Samantha Hanson, Mike Farley, Wayne Rooks and Brice Hancock, the management, publicity, legal and booking team that runs the project.
I’d like to give a very special thanks to Michael Nicholson who has made the radio campaign that was just launched possible!!!! Thank you!
The album has so far been getting positive reviews and has had successful response within the industry. A very big thanks to everyone who has had a part with making it! Chris Jaramillo for his engineering and production, Tony C’de Baca for his guitar and vocal production, Sam Atkinson for use of his studio and house, the band, Andrew Berlin, Christopher Jak, and Scott Burcham. It would not have been made without you.
I also thank Calvin Aguilar for taking on the web design for the past two years. He’s done an incredible job and I am very grateful to him for it.
www.aggielaughs.com
I want to thank all of the venues that we have played in the past six months for such great opportunities, especially The Walnut Room and Mark Sundermeier, for hosting our cd release party and having us back. It is such an incredible venue to play and we are honored.
Most importantly, I’d like to thank everyone who supports us and comes out to the shows. Without you, there wouldn’t be a reason to do what we do. Thank you very much! You are greatly appreciated.
If there is any one that feels left out, I apologize. I do not mean to, but thank you!!!
I know that was a bit extensive, but I am grateful for everything. Thanks for taking the time to read. Now for the updates!
Sincerely,
Jason Vigil

* What The Critics Are Saying About Jason Vigil's Heart Gone Sober
"Ripe with reflections on love, loss, and heartache, the songs never drag along or bring the mood down; instead they remain energetic and meaningful while maintaining catchy hooks, powerful vocals, and solid performances from Vigil's band." –Colorado Music Buzz
"He delivers the songs with a passion that is unmatched by anyone out there right now. While most bands chose to scream their passion at you these days, Vigil chooses to rather pour them out so you can understand them."—All Ages Zine
"When all is said and done, this CD is a pleasure to listen to."—Blog Critics
"….if you're looking for a full band record of quality modern rock - this is the album for you."—Melodic.net
"Singer/songwriter Jason Vigil embraces the straight-forward pop format throughout his entrancing Heart Gone Sober. Laden with catchy hooks ala alternative rock from the late '90s, it's an album that discusses some of the more personal sides to humanity—drug abuse and recovery, relationships, and life in general. Passionate music played with vigor."—Smother.net
